The night before egg retrieval…
Moni finally completed here last trigger shot (Lupron) while both still continued to take antibiotics (AM&PM). We managed to go to bed before 10 pm. 🎉 Also, Moni wasn’t able to eat or drink anything after midnight before egg retrieval procedure.
Before we went to bed, we reminded each other that it’s OK to say we are nervous. Because we were 😱
The morning of egg retrieval…
Everyone dressed up (including Mona Vie) and left the house on time to drop off Mona Vie at school and to be at the clinic by 8 am. ☀️ After this point on, things happened very quickly and blurry for Moni and Michael.
We arrived to the clinic a few minutes before 8 am, got checked in and one of the nurses escorted us straight to the OR.
Moni changed her clothes to a robe the clinic provided and with super soft and cozy alpaca socks 🧦 Our nurse told us a few days before the procedure that the room is cold.

Well, our nurse wasn’t joking, it was cold in the OR. So they had a hot pad ready for Moni when they sat Moni down to see our CRNA. The CRNA came to go over Moni’s information that she should know before they put her to sleep 😭 She also gave Moni IV. This part was painful. It took a few minutes to find the vain for the needle to go in…Ouch! But we were so glad we had an awesome CRNA who managed to distract Moni while she was poking Moni up and down, left and right 🤣

Our doctor came to talk to us before the procedure and what we should expect after the procedure. This is where Moni’s memory started to fade. Luckily, Michael was there to remember everything. The following are things we could remember talking to the doctor before the procedure.
Egg retrieval procedure should take about 2 hours at most.
Moni will be under anesthesia for the entire procedure.
Once eggs are retrieved, one of the nurses will come get Michael to proceed with Michael’s thing.
The CRNA and the nurse will be there when Moni wakes up and Moni will be escorted back to recovery area.
Michael will be asked to doctor’s office to learn about the procedure and next steps.
Alright, time for the procedure.😬
We kissed goodbye before Moni started walking to the OR. We are too cute ❤️

Moni walked into the OR where there was another nurse, introduced herself as circulating nurse waiting in the OR already. She proceeded by asking Moni’s last name and DOB. The CRNA informed Moni right before she injected general anesthesia through IV. And snoozzzzzzzzze 💤💤💤💤💤
Meanwhile, Michael was taken to a patient room for his collection and then waited in the lobby for Moni’s procedure to finish.
The first thing Moni heard after waking up was “Hello Moni, how was your dream?” Still in the OR.
At this point, Michael was invited to the doctor’s office and learned that
The procedure went well
Moni was waking up
12 eggs were retrieved
we will know # of eggs are matured and successfully fertilized the next day
After it was safe, the CRNA and the nurse wheeled Moni over to the recover area. The nurse needed to monitor at least 5 good vitals before letting Moni go home. But man! Moni wasn’t cooperating, too sleepy. So they sent another nurse to go get Michael. Michael started talking about FOOD and frappuccino. Yep! They are all Moni’s favorites. Well, that conversation helped Moni become more conscious and her vitals were back to normal.

Recovery…🏠
We came back home with some cramping and discomfort in Moni’s belly. The doctor injected some pain med through IV that would wear off within 6 hours. Moni slept almost all day and started asking for her comfort food after she woke up….Thai food 🇹🇭
Michael got Moni a hot pad to put over her belly to help with abdominal pain. And it worked!
We are waiting patiently to learn about the number of fertilized eggs from our doctor. The wait feels long and forever. We are keeping ourselves busy and motivated 😍
